This is the story of India's second-richest man, who witnessed death just 15 feet away during the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai. The businessman from Gujarat was at the Taj Hotel when the attack occurred. According to a report from Business Standard, Gautam Adani was having a meal with Dubai Port CEO Mohammed Sharaf. Just as he was about to leave, he was invited to stay for coffee with some associates, which he accepted. It was then that terrorists struck, forcing Adani to be escorted by hotel staff to the basement, where he spent the entire night before being rescued the next day.
Upon arriving in Ahmedabad on November 27 in his private jet, Adani remarked, "I saw death at a distance of just 15 feet."
This wasn’t the first time Adani escaped death. In 1998, he and his associate, Shantilal Patel, were kidnapped at gunpoint by bandits in Ahmedabad. As reported by Financial Express, the kidnappers took them to an undisclosed location and demanded a ransom of $1.5 to $2 million for their release, but both were freed the same day.
At 62, Gautam Adani has a staggering net worth of $93.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, making him the second-richest person in India after Mukesh Ambani. His Adani Group operates across various sectors, including energy, agriculture, real estate, and defense.
